The Spirit of Zuccotti

October 5, 2011 Marching from Foley Square to Zuccotti Park, thousands peacefully protested. Zuccotti Park was the gathering point for students, teachers, unemployed, under-employed of every size, shape, color, creed. “Show me what democracy looks like! This is what democracy looks like” brought new life and energy to a tired cause – life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness – with liberty and justice for all.

October 2, 2011 – Zuccotti Park was a true “public square,” Hundreds stayed through the night, keeping vigil for their cause. Holding hand-made signs like, “I went to college so I could help people and now I have $130,000 debt that I can’t pay” and “Fight For What You Believe or Become What You Hate.” OWS offered anyone and everyone a chance to paint on the backside of pizza boxes, discarded poster board or even themselves. A sense of respect and purpose and diversity blanketed the park, peaceful assembly. This is what democracy looked like.
